B&B Theaters announces big plans for LS market

Adding a little buzz to the monthly Lee's Summit Economic Development Council luncheon, B&B Theaters announced plans for a new theater on the west side of Lee's Summit, as well as major upgrades to its current operation on Douglas Street.

The Liberty-based company announced the new theater will be located in the mixed-use New Longview development off View High Drive and Third Street and will feature seven screens as well as high-end amenities. According to a news release: The movie theatre itself will feature cutting edge technology. Not only will all auditoriums have stadium seating with comfortable leather-recliner seating, but each will feature Christie® digital projection and select auditoriums will have the newest 3D XBRITE® High Frame Rate® and REAL-D™ technology. All auditoriums will feature B&B’s latest design, with Dolby 7.1 digital surround sound as well as wall-to-wall curved screens. These features will give each customer a completely immersive movie-going experience. The concession stand will feature fresh popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, cotton candy, self-serve candy, a wide variety of self-serve drink options, a Marquee Bar and expanded hot food items, such as mozzarella sticks, gourmet burgers, chicken tenders, funnel cake fries, and much more.

Also via its release, B&B said upgrades to the 16-screen Douglas Street location will include a new concession stand, new carpet, updated bathrooms, a Marquee Bar and more.

The Lee's Summit Journal's Toriano Porter talked about the pre-luncheon buzz, the EDC managed to create by teasing its members about an upcoming announcement. Rob Roberts, of the Kansas City Business Journal, talks about how the project will fit into the broader New Longview project.
