Surprise roast from Holland highlights closing remarks from outgoing councilmembers

One final jab and laugh. That's how Councilmember Derek Holland decided to close out his final session as a member of the Lee's Summit City Council. Holland, who has served as an elected official at both the local and state levels, poked a little fun at long-time political colleague Bob Johnson Thursday as the two sat for the last Council meeting of their terms, along with Councilmember Allan Gray.

The good-natured improptu roast probably deserves a post all by itself. But where's the fun in that? And as all who have followed Johnson throughout his years of public service know, he wasn't about to let Holland be the only one throwing a few playful jabs.

Gray got in on the comedy act as well, thanking everyone for showing up on his special day.

And while we could end things there, we won't. Mayor Randy Rhoads took a few moments to praise each of the three for their service and contributions to the City. He did so by offering each of them a plaque... and 10 more minutes to speak... or was it three minutes? Or maybe just one?
