St. Michael's Academy nabs first athletics district championship

Guardians top Summit Christian Academy for district volleyball title & advance to State semifinal

En route to a birth in the MSHSAA state playoffs, the St. Michael the Archangel volleyball team defeated Summit Christian Academy last week to claim the school’s first district championship.

On Oct. 21, the Guardians (18-14-2) swept through the first two rounds of the playoffs with straight set wins over Bishop LeBlond and Lexington. St. Michael will face Hermann (26-9-1) in the state semi-final on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau.

St. Pius (24-8) will face Strafford (31-4-1) in the tournament's other semi-final. The Championship match is set for Saturday, also in Cape Girardeau.
