LSFD to promote member currently serving overseas

Promotion to Capt. comes during military service in Qatar

The Lee’s Summit Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Paramedic/Specialist Ben Hicks to the rank of Captain.

Captain Hicks is currently serving his country in Qatar with the 138th Infantry Division of the Missouri National Guard as a 1st Lieutenant. The Lee’s Summit Fire Department will present Captain Hicks with his badge via teleconference on Saturday, November 4, at 9:00 am in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 220 SE Green Street.

Captain Hicks will recite the oath presented by Chief Rick Poeschl.1st Sergeant Wes Blanscet, a Paramedic/Specialist with LSFD will be badging Hicks on behalf of Chief Poeschl. Captain Hicks’ family will be in attendance at City Hall to accept his red helmet.

Captain Hicks started with the Lee’s Summit Fire Department in 2004, working through the ranks to Paramedic/Specialist and testing for captain prior to his current deployment. Captain Hicks also serves as a Tactical Medic with the Lee’s Summit Police Department’s Emergency Services Squad.   When he returns sometime in early 2018, he will be assigned to the Fire Department’s Training Division.
