The City of Lee’s Summit has been recognized as a leader in digital technology with the 2017 Digital Cities Survey award from the Center for Digital Government. Lee’s Summit ranked third in its population category for its ability to leverage technology to better serve its citizens, enhance transparency and increase citizen engagement.

Cities across America are invited to participate in five population classifications: 500,000 or more, 250,000 to 499,999, 125,000 to 249,999, 75,000 to 124,999 and fewer than 75,000. This is the fourth time Lee’s Summit has placed in the top 10 in the 75,000 to 124,999 category accompanied by only two other Missouri cities – Independence and Columbia.
Lee’s Summit is committed to openness and transparency demonstrated by the implementation of the Legislative Information Center, a clearing house for agendas, supporting materials, live streaming, recording and archiving of all City Council and Council Committee meetings on its website. In an effort to provide access into the workings of the City, a portal of important documents are maintained including the city’s budget, Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and water quality reports. To keep citizens abreast of capital improvements such as roads, bridges and parks, citizens can access an interactive map to review the capital improvement projects, their cost and schedules.
To better serve its citizens, Lee’s Summit has added and enhanced workforce mobile capabilities. The Public Works and Water Departments have realized efficiencies by using mobile devices to access maps and input data directly from the field. Upgraded 4G connected devices in Fire Department vehicles allow access to route mapping and related dispatch data. All patrol cars have responsive designed maps driven off web mapping services resulting in up-to-date information for routing purposes.
