Girls and boys donning the Scouts’ uniform converged on Lee’s Summit Social Services last week in a show of support for the emergency assistance agency.
Lee’s Summit’s Cub Scouts Packs 195 and 323 and the Girl Scouts of Daisy Troop 4190 all collected and delivered canned and boxed goods and other food items to benefit the pantry at Lee’s Summit Social Services. Each week, the LSSS pantry serves hundreds of families in need.
The collections come at a critical time for LSSS as it prepares for holiday needs of its clients.
“Both the Scouts and Daisy’s continue to fill a great need in our community,” Lee’s Summit Social Services Executive Director Matt Sanning said. “As these children grow in our community, their continued involvement and understanding of service will also grow.
“Our community has always asked what they can do to help their neighbor and this just shows that the spirit is alive and well. We are grateful for these amazing kids and parents as they help us fill our pantry during the busiest time of the year.”
The annual Christmas Store also starts on Dec. 4 at the agency. The Christmas Store allows families the opportunity to shop for new gifts so kids of all ages may have new toys under the tree on Christmas morning.
