Cierpiot wins special election for Missouri Senate seat

Republican Mike Cierpiot has won the special election for the 8th District Missouri Senate seat.  

Cierpiot received 12,851 votes (50.29%), while Democrat Hillary Shields received 10,869 votes (42.53%) and Independent Jacob Turk received 1,806 (7.07%) votes.

Cierpiot will finish out the final year of Republican Will Kraus’ Senate term and will need to run for re-election in 2018. Prior to Kraus’ resignation, Cierpiot had previously announced intent to run for the seat in 2018. Shields has not said whether she will again run against Cierpiot next year.


With 70% counted Republican Mike Cierpiot has extended his lead to 1,377 votes over Democrat Hillary Shields


With 20% of the vote counts, Republican Candidate Mike Cierpiot has a slight 285 vote lead over Democrat Hillary Shields. Independent candidate Jacob Turk trails by more than 2,800 votes.
