Former Council member, Ron Williams, to file for 2018 mayoral race

Former two-term City Council member and Mayor Pro Temp Ron Williams is seeking the office of Mayor in Lee’s Summit.

Williams views the position of Mayor as an opportunity to use his extensive experience in public service to lead a refocus of the city’s economic development priorities and leadership in regional issues. He also sees the City Council as a platform to assure that Lee’s Summit’s citizens’ benefit from a culture that is open to new ideas while preserving values of strong leadership, quality investments, kindness and citizen engagement, values he believes “we are in some peril of losing.”

Williams served as District 2 Council member from 2000-2008, four of those years as Mayor Pro Temp during a period of unpresented growth and development in Lee’s Summit.

“Those were active times,” said Williams. “Population growth, new housing starts, infrastructure expansion, Summit Fair developed, completion of City Hall and new Police Headquarters-Municipal Court. Our City Council had a ‘can do’ attitude. We didn’t always agree—far from it. But at the end of the day, we were collegial enough to align on what was best for the city.  Our citizens deserve no less.”

Williams, 66, who was born and raised in Lee’s Summit and graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1969. For 34 years he has owned and managed Integral Construction Services, Inc., a general contracting and construction management firm in Lee’s Summit.  He and his wife of 38 years, Cindy, have two adult children Sarah and Brian.

While serving on the City Council, Williams served as Mayor Pro Temp, chaired the Public Works, and chaired the Community Development committees. In prior years he chaired the Tax Increment Finance Commission. In 2016 he was Vice-chair of the City of Lee’s Summit Charter Review Commission (revisions to the city’s constitution). In community service, he has been Chairman of the Board for the Lee’s Summit Symphony and Chairman of the Board of Directors Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Governmental Relations Committee and held positions on the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council.

“We have to retain the values that make our community great by avoiding polarization and gridlock. Lee’s Summit has great assets. As representatives of the people, it is the responsibility of the Mayor and Council to solve problems and initiate an intentional agenda that will build on those considerable assets and maintain the best of Lee’s Summit. I want to be our next mayor to help lead that effort.”
