The candidate filing period for next spring's municipal election begins Tuesday, Dec. 12. The election is slated for April 3.
This election will feature races for Mayor, one seat each in City Council districts 1, 2 and 3 and two seats in Council district 4. In addition to the election to fill the seat currently held by Council member Dave Mosby, who is term limited, District 4 voters will also choose a candidate to complete the term of former member Chris Moreno. After a voter Recall, Fred DeMoro was appointed by the Council to fill his seat until the April 2018 election. DeMoro has not made a public announcement regarding an intention to run for office.
Voters will also be voting on municipal judge.
Interested candidates may file an application in person from December 12, 2017 at 8 a.m. to January 16, 2018 at 5 p.m. with the City Clerk at Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 S.E. Green Street.
Filing hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., closed from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. daily for lunch, and closed 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on December 14. The office will observe the normal holiday schedule.
Qualifications for candidates filing for office in Lee’s Summit are included in the City Charter, Article III. During the filing process candidates must affirm that they meet all charter requirements, including council district residency.
