Why did you choose your location? What made it the ideal space for your business?

We chose this location because we wanted to be downtown LS and there was nothing else available at the time. The parking is better here with our own private lot & street parking. With the layout of our building we are also able to let the customers have a glimpse into our space & to see us working when they walk in.

Tell us your story. What does your business offer its customers and what drives you to be the best provider of this service/product?

I started decorating cookies & cakes when I was a teenager at home as my mom, Betty Mahan had a bakery in our garage (Party Time Bake Shop) & then later opened a shop in Bayberry Crossing called Maw B's. After she sold that location I was married & had a family of my own & wanted to stay at home with my boys. Decorating cakes & cookies provided the extra income to be able to stay home.

After my boys grew up I continued to do cakes & cookies & work a full time job. I lost my job at the height of the rescission & just could not see myself working for anyone again. I took the Kauffman Entrepreneurship class reinforcing that I really wanted to open a bakery.
I rented space for a while from the cupcake store that was located downtown LS spreading my wings just a little at a time. When I found our current location I knew that it was time to open my own bakery.

We have been in this location 5 years as of May 15, 2017.

What is the business culture? Tell us why others would want to work with/for you?

We offer decorated iced sugar cookies that no other store in Lee's Summit does. We have over 500 cookie cutters so that we can do almost anything to match the theme of your celebration. We can also do decorated cakes to match. We are the only bakery in historic downtown Lee's Summit.

What is a business success story from the previous three years?

For the last 3 years we have supplied cookies for a local bbq catering company during December. We do over 200 dozen cookies in the first three weeks of December. In 2016, we had orders for 575 dozen iced sugar cookies in December alone. We continue to grow year after year. Most weeks we are booked at least a week in advance

Time to toot your own horn? Give us three reasons why your business rocks and why you love what you do.

  1. We are the SWEETEST secret in Lee's Summit!
  2. We turn 5 years old on May 15,2017! Not to many small food businesses can make it that long.
  3. We love to make people smile — how can you be in a bad mood with some yummy treat in your hand!!
  4. Our treats are made with love and yumminess in them!!
