Construction has officially begun on the much-anticipated B&B Theatres project in the New Longview development area.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday morning to start construction on the 7-screen luxury cinema project serving as the centerpiece of Box Development's mixed-use project in western Lee's Summit.
"This state-of-the-art theatre will be a great addition to New Longview's premiere, mixed-use 'New Urbanism' entertainment district," said B&B Theatres President Bob Bagby. "We are looking forward to sharing the magic of the movies with Lee’s Summit early next year and are excited to be working with Box Real Estate Development and Platform Ventures on this project.”
The project also adds momentum to the city's flourishing west side along the View High Corridor, according to Lee's Summit Economic Development Council President Rick McDowell.
"We call all of this new development along View High Drive our very own 'West Side Story' and are thrilled to see so much commercial and residential construction taking place between the historic Longview Farm and extending north to I-470 with the Paragon Star Soccer Village. It is a very exciting time for Lee's Summit," McDowell said.
According to information provided by B&B, the new theatre will feature cutting edge technology. Not only will all auditoriums have stadium seating with comfortable leather-recliner seating, but each will feature Christie® digital projection and select auditoriums will have the newest 3D XBRITE®
High Frame Rate® and REAL-D™ technology. All auditoriums will feature B&B’s latest design, with Dolby 7.1 digital surround sound as well as wall-to-wall curved screens. These features will give each customer a completely immersive movie-going experience. The concession stand will offer fresh popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, cotton candy, self-serve candy, a wide variety of self-serve drink options, a Marquee Bar and expanded hot food items, such as mozzarella sticks, gourmet burgers, chicken tenders, funnel cake fries, and much more.
In addition to the new construction project, B&B has made public plans to upgrade its existing 16-screen theater on Douglas Road in 2017. Features and upgrades include a new concession stand, new carpet, updated bathrooms, and a Marquee Bar.
“Lee’s Summit is a fast growing market and we are excited to bring two theatre options to patrons in the community: luxury, boutique movie-going at New Longview, creating the perfect date night or special family outing and our Lee’s Summit 16 experience with family-friendly pricing and updated lobby and bathroom features," Bagby said. "Late 2017 & 2018 will ring in a new era of movie-going options for Lee’s Summit and the surrounding area.”
