Summit Christian Academy (SCA) Senior Russell Cook, son of Stuart and Cindy Cook, participated in the 78th session of The American Legion Boys State of Missouri over the summer. Held on the campus of the University of Central Missouri (UCM) in Warrensburg, Cook was selected based on his leadership, citizenship, academics, and character during his junior year at SCA.

All citizens at Boys State may vote and are eligible to hold office, as the program is designed to educate and train Missouri’s young leaders in functional citizenship, leadership, and government. Nearly 1,000 student leaders build an entire state government in a single week.
Accomplishments, positions held, and awards earned by Cook at Missouri Boys State include: Citizen of Boone City (which received third place out of 16 cities), Citizen of Frank County (which won Model County Award); Member of the Nationalist Party; City Clerk (Cook was nominated for Outstanding City Clerk); County Committee Secretary; Delegate to County Committee, Ward III; and Reporter - MBS Record. Cook was captain ofBoone City’s softball team, which got second place in the top division.
Cook also attended Journalism School while participating in Boys State.
“Boys State was an intense week,” shared Cook. “My view on government was drastically changed. I thoroughly enjoyed my week at Boys State, and I would recommend it to anyone.”
