Denise Chisum to serve as Grand Marshal
The Emerald Isle Parade committee will honor Denise Chisum as the 2018 Parade Grand Marshal. Denise recently retired in November after 32 years of service as the Lee’s Summit City Clerk. She worked extensively on the preparations for the Truly 150 celebration in 2015, and helped produce a 200-page book on Lee’s Summit History for the City’s Founder’s Day Celebration. “Denise truly represents all that is good about our community. Her personal approach to life is “celebration and fun”…exactly what the Emerald Isle Parade is all about! I can’t think of a more deserving person to be recognized by the community,” shared City Manager Steve Arbo. Denise continues to serve on the Lee’s Summit Historical Society Board of Directors.
Parade attendees can start their morning with breakfast or brunch at a number of locally-owned restaurants in Downtown Lee’s Summit. The VFW will host an All Patriots Breakfast fundraiser from 8:00-11:00 a.m. to support local veterans.
The Bits O’ Gold Coin Hunt will take place at 11:30 a.m. in Howard Station Park on SE Main Street. Children 8 and younger may participate in this race to find green and gold coins in the grass at Howard Station Park. No registration is necessary.
Codie Allen from 106.5 The Wolf will serve as the Master of Ceremonies when the parade kicks off at Noon. Parade judges for this year are Brett Anthony, meteorologist for KCTV 5; Jet Green, former Downtown business owner; and Dr. David Zak, owner of Zak Chiropractic.
Dozens of Downtown retail and specialty stores will be open throughout the day to showcase spring décor and merchandise. Downtown restaurants and bars will feature their annual Emerald Isle Pub Crawl which will take place at approximately 1PM following the parade and will continue into the evening. Visit any of the bars in Downtown Lee’s Summit to purchase an Emerald Isle Pub Crawl T-shirt and lanyard for $10.
