Theatre group to hold musical auditions for ‘Shrek,’ ‘Next to Normal’

Summit Theatre Group in Lee’s Summit is searching for musical talent, opening up auditions to its two summer musicals coming up in June and August.

STG is looking for talented singers and actors to audition for “Next to Normal” and “Shrek The Musical,” March 26-28 at 6 p.m. at the MCC-Cultural Arts Center, 500 SW Longview Road, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, 64081.

Audition age groups include first through sixth grades, seventh through 12th grades and adults 18 and older.

“Next to Normal” runs June 15-16, 22-24 and is a production exploring how a suburban household copes with mental illness and crisis. It was a winner of three Tony Awards in 2009 and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize and was chosen a “10 best” show by critics at the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times.

“Shrek the Musical” runs Aug. 10-12 at Lee’s Summit West High School. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.
