Summit Theatre’s largest cast to date to deliver ‘Shrek The Musical’

Summit Theatre’s largest cast to date to deliver ‘Shrek The Musical’

The abundant cast and mesmerizing costumes will showcase perhaps the biggest and boldest show in Summit Theatre Group's history, “Shrek the Musical!”

Directed by Lee's Summit West theater teacher Brad Rackers, "Shrek the Musical" is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the eyes (and ears).

“This is a truly talented cast who have been working hard to make this a magical performance for audiences of all ages,” Rackers said. “I have been impressed with their dedication and creativity throughout the process.”

“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek ...” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand, and his name is Shrek.

Matt Runnels (Kansas City) stars as Shrek the ogre. Luke Knopke (Kansas City) is his donkey sidekick. The production also stars Micayla Miller (Overland Park, Kan.) as Fiona; Jesse Yost (Pleasant Hill) as Lord Farquaad; Taylor Arri (Kansas City) as Dragon; Tyler Harper (Lee’s Summit) as Gingy; and Liv Collett as Pinocchio.

“Shrek the Musical” runs Aug. 10-11 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 12 at 2:30 p.m. at Lee's Summit West High School. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors/students and a $44 family pack for four tickets is available. Tickets can be purchased at www.summittheatre.org or at both Lee's Summit Hy-Vee Stores.
