Certificates are non-degree awards earned by students completing a short-term program of study. UCM offers certificate programs in a number high-demand areas, including business, healthcare, information technology and manufacturing.

Typically, an adult student can earn a certificate in fields such as phlebotomy (blood collection), clinical medical assistant, web development or paralegal in just a few months -- or even weeks. The programs prepare the adult learners for a specific occupation with certification signifying to employers that the student has reached a certain standard of knowledge.

Annual salaries for the majority of the UCM certificate programs are in the mid $30,000s. In addition, certifications can provide a boost to an individual’s current career, expanding knowledge and expanding opportunities.

“The certificate program provides students with the opportunity to gain entry-level skills in professional fields,” said Clarinda Dir, University of Central Missouri program manager of workforce development.

Designed with adult learners in mind, the certificate courses are offered online, via face-to-face instruction or in a self-paced environment as well as through hybrid courses that combine the instruction methods. The face-to-face courses are offered at the Missouri Innovation Campus in Lee’s Summit as well as at locations throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.

If you are interested in earning adult certification, classes starting during January include:

Self-paced, open-enrollment courses currently enrolling also include medical assistant and technical writing. For more information about the many other certificate programs offered by UCM, visit this webpage.
