School supplies, building fund focus of Budget Blinds’ 4th Friday

August 23 event in downtown Lee’s Summit encourages donations to Coldwater

In keeping with its tradition of giving back, Budget Blinds of Lee's Summit has dedicated the upcoming downtown Lee's Summit Fourth Friday event to a local charity — Coldwater of Lee’s Summit.

Coldwater is a local nonprofit providing food, clothing and other assistance to low-income families.

Fourth Friday visitors to Budget Blinds, 239 SE Main St. in downtown Lee’s Summit, are encouraged to bring backpacks, paper, pencils, earbuds, folders and other school supplies for Coldwater to distribute to its network of families.

“Donating school supplies to Coldwater has become an annual event that our family very much looks forward to each year,” Budget Blinds co-owner Courtney Stoddard Laufketter said. “Merging the spirit of giving into our monthly events in downtown is something that is personal and important to us as a family-owned business.”

Budget Blinds is also donating $1 per blind sold in August for the Coldwater Building Fund as the nonprofit works toward construction of a new facility.

“This is the second year Budget Blinds of Lee’s Summit has held the school supply event for Coldwater,” assistant director Monte Stull said. “We had 130 students sign up this school year and it would be impossible to fill this many without the assistance of our community partners.”

Local artist Don Dane will be featured at Budget Blinds along with Noonday Jewelry.
